Stop the Stigma Mission Statement
We are an awareness program designed to help people help themselves without fear of the stigma that being labeled as having a mental illness creates.
We want to increase knowledge of startling statistics and facts.
We are a non-profit organization that desires to make personal stories and faces be heard and seen, that lives not be lost in vain.
We portray depression as exactly what it is, an illness and NOT a personality flaw or a weakness.
We contrast the support for most other medical conditions (diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, etc.) with the vast lack of support for people with different degrees and types of depression.
We compare this campaign to the shame attached to the AIDS epidemic 25 years ago, and we will raise awareness of the myths of depression to reduce, if not completely eradicate, the perceived indignity and shame associated with depressive and mood disorders.
This organization will save lives.
